It’s hard to believe, but Little Sis is officially a middle schooler! Not sure where the time went, but here we are. Just like that. Her first day of school was a week ago last Friday, so off course I have to write up a post about her First Day of Middle School Lunch! Yes, I am over a week late and yes, FRIDAY. Her first day of school was on a Friday. Haha. That’s just one of the interesting things about year round schools. We love it, though.
In this lunch:
- Turkey and cheddar cheese sandwich with mayo on flat bread
- Canned carrots
- Toasted Crackers with BabyBel cheese
- Strawberries, cut up
- Fruit snacks
- Cheese puffs
Little Sis was eagerly awaiting her first day of middle school, even though she switched tracks this year to better align with Big Sis’ new (traditional) calendar who is a HIGH SCHOOLER now! She was excited and a little nervous at the same time since she wasn’t going to be with all of her friends from her old track, but was also ready for a change. That meant meeting lots of new kids and making new friends, along with new teachers AND school. Luckily, she had a couple really good soccer buddies on the same track to ease the transition.
Little Sis is a planner and an organizer. She wanted to go back-to-school shopping right after her 5th grade graduation, over a month in advance, lol. I made her wait though, because I just couldn’t mentally handle it at the time, haha. Plus, over the years, I had amassed quite a collection of school supplies. Some were gifted to us and some I had bought in excess. This year I finally got things in order so she could go school supply shopping at home first and then to Target to fill in the gaps.
On our trip to Target, I told Little Sis to pick out some “nice” shirts since her wardrobe consists of 98% t-shirts. Do you like what she picked out? This Harry Potter Hufflepuff shirt for her first day of school because she is a self-proclaimed Hufflepuff. Oh well, whatcha gonna do? I happily obliged, along with a long-sleeved Harry Potter shirt for winter. In addition to picking out the shirts, she also picked out a new roomy Embark backpack as well as the exact bread she wanted for her First Day of Middle School Lunch sandwich. I just shook my head and smiled.
Her first day of school did start out a little harried. She would normally take the bus, but with her heavy load and the fact that her old buddies were tracked out and she wasn’t sure who she’d sit with on the bus, I just drove her. Then, as I was pulling through carpool and reminding her to take the bus home, we realized we weren’t entirely sure of the bus number. My phone wasn’t cooperating to look it up so carpool home it was. Decided in the last possible minute. Off to school she went, with a big smile on her face, gigantic backpack and Hufflepuff shirt.
Little Sis is a smiley, self-sufficient, friendly happy girl. I know I didn’t have to worry about her, but I couldn’t help but wonder how her day was going and hoped really hard it was good. When I picked her up in the afternoon, I was greeted by a giant smile and non-stop chatter about how her day went. It filled my heart w/ happiness to hear that she LOVED her first day of school. Here are some highlights:
- She was lost the second she walked into school but luckily there were 7th and 8th graders w/ designated lanyards ready to help.
- Her track’s house names are Harry Potter houses!!!!!!
- It’s waaay better than elementary school. And she really liked elementary school!
- She is pretty sure she is going to be in the Hufflepuff house!! Good thing she wore her Hufflepuff shirt and Harry Potter high tops, I said. π
- Her soccer buddies and she got to eat lunch together!
- She made some new friends!
- She accidentally ran right into an 8th grader on her way out was relieved he was nice. Whew!
Could this first day get any better?!?! Well, yes! because soccer buddies were coming over for a sleepover that night to jointly celebrate their first days of school. We were happy to hear that all three girls enjoyed their first day together. Whew! Now that’s a relief, though not a surprise at all.
