Friday March 8 is the release of the movie OZ: The Great and Powerful. So here we Bento Bloggers and Friends are, paying homage to the world of Oz in the way we do best – with a Blog Hop! Thus, I present you, OZ the Great and Powerful Lunch!
I originally started making this as today’s school lunch but instead it became last night’s dinner. There was no way some elements just stay in place. Plus, I was at a loss about what to do for dinner, so I said here ya go!
The girls got all excited (and intrigued) when I told them about this blog hop and showed them their dinner. I told them it was in honor of the new Wizard of Oz movie coming out. Little Sis quickly chimed in, “You mean Oz: the Great and Powerful?” I answered yes to which she quickly responded in her announcer voice, “Some scenes may be too intense for some children.” We all had a good giggle.
Little Sis definitely falls under the “some children” category as I’m not ready to take her to such a movie yet. She, nor Big Sis, have even seen the original Wizard of Oz, but soon, I hope. They do know the story, though, since Homi and Hobi (aka my parents) took them to see it at a dinner theater last year and loved it. I just feel like “some scenes may be intense for some children” especially since even Little Sis calls herself skittish. 🙂
Then as I was snapping up some last-minute pix of the dinners, Big Sis came and told me, “You know we have a dog that looks just like Toto, don’t you?” I said, “No, I didn’t. We do?” Then she proceeded to bring me the better Toto and said, “Here you go, in case you want to use it.” How could I not? Even though I’ve seen the movie like million times, she still knows far better than I.
And going in for a close-up:
In this lunch:
- Nature’s Own 100% Whole Wheat Bread with Applegate Cooked Ham and Trader Joe’s Meunster Cheese
- Broomstick made from a pretzel stick stuffed into one third of a cheese stick separated at the bottom to be more broom-like with a nori strap
- Edamame, steamed and lightly salted
- Cheese and Nori witchy legs w/ fruit snack Ruby Slippers
- Delmonte Canned Carrots, cut up into “Poppies” – my rendition of the Poppy Fields
- Witch’s Hat treat made with a Keebler Fudge Stripe Cookie topped with a Hershey’s Kiss and laced with some orange frosting (all fantastically Nut-Free!)
And I just couldn’t help but throw these old pix in the mix. Made this dress using Simplicity Pattern 7801 and have gotten not one but TWO uses out of it, actually make that THREE ’cause I used it in my lunch pic, too. Sweet! Never mind that they had no idea who Dorothy even was back then, but they sure enjoyed wearing those Ruby Slippers! So much that Big Sis, at the ripe old age of 6, just bought herself another pair with some Christmas money she got and has dubbed them her “indoor dress-up shoes”.
My how time flies. Seems like just yesterday, but no, it was 7.5 and 4.5 years ago already…
Ok, on to the next top! Hop on over to see what wonderful things Erin of “feeling a little lunchy” has in store for you! Have fun and be sure to watch out for flying monkeys!
