School’s out for summer and the girls have a whole week off! They go to year-round schools, so summers are like that. We made grand plans to spend it with the hubby’s entire side of the family in Michigan, cousins and all. There are all sorts of fun things planned and we’ve been talking it up for months, so of course the girls were beside themselves with excitement, particularly Little Sis.
I got a notification last night telling me my flight’s been canceled. The airlines cancelled my 7:30am and they notified me at 11:30pm! Good thing we’re not like normal people and weren’t already in bed. But at least I GOT a notification! It could have been much worse. About 10 minutes later, I got an automated call with our re-booked flight info – for the day after! All that was after they changed our return flight and snuck in a 5 hour layover without even telling us! Poor Little Sis is going to be devastated.
This morning, I found it really hard to muster the courage to wake this little sweetie up only to tell her the bad news. But we still need to drive Daddy and Big Sis to theirs! We used frequent flyer miles which ended up splitting us on separate flights and airlines. : (
*Oops, just got busted. Little Sis saw this picture of her up on my Facebook page and was NOT happy about it. lol. She said I could keep it up, but from now on, no posting sleeping pictures of her. Okay, got it!
Although she did breakdown into a heartbreaking cry for about five minutes, she snapped out of it and was in pretty good spirits and as smiley as can be. She wouldn’t let me take a picture to prove it, though. haha.
On the ride to the airport, Daddy, Big Sis and I threw out many ideas on how we could spend our day together. She wasn’t interested in any of them:
- Frankie’s Fun Park followed up by Adventure Landing and then Pelican’s Sno-Balls with more mini-golf (Big Sis’ dream come true scenario)
- Dave and Busters (one of my least favorite places on Earth but I threw that out there anyway)
- IHOP
- Breakfast wrap from NC Bagel Cafe’ & Deli
- Bruggers’ breakfast sandwich
- Go to a park
- Have a friend over
- Carnival games
- Five Below (I detest this place, but I’m willing to take one for this girl!)
- Shopping at Target and a slushie for breakfast
Despite all those fun suggestions that made Big Sis almost want to switch plane tickets with Little Sis, all Little Sis wanted to do was go home after our airport run. Sure, if that’s what you want! Today, my plan is to say “yes” to her as often as possible, making it all about her today. Today’s your day, Little Sis!
After unsuccessfully trying to have her BFF she just wanted to:
- Chill on the couch with her iPad, headphones and Minecraft you-videos
- Eat pizza for breakfast at 10:30am, just like her mama did an hour before (hee hee)
- Watch an episode of Victorious and then Alvin and the Chipmunks
She finally perked up to play carnival games! Luckily, we already had some set up, thanks to her end-of-year class party a couple days before and we eagerly added four more! The constant smile on her face and excitement in her voice while chatting away as we were setting up and playing “carnival” was a gift and definitely an indication that much of the sting of disappointment had warn off. She repeatedly told me how much she loved it and that she was having SO much fun, as did I.
After all the carnival fun was had, she ate a simple little lunch:
… and then a friend, after seeing my sad facebook post, invited her to the pool today, which finally spurred me to renew my Y membership. Now we won’t have to invite ourselves over to friends’ pools anymore! I even joined the pool just for her! haha.
After about 4 hours at the pool, I took them out to dinner to Little Sis’ favorite place – Panera!
and a stop by Dairy Queen for a chocolate dipped cone.
All in all, it was a good day. She asked me several times throughout the day what I thought Daddy and Big Sis were doing at that moment or where they were, but she took it pretty well. As we pulled into our garage at the end of a fun-filled day, she remarked “I can’t believe my sister and Daddy aren’t home. I miss them so much.” : ( Don’t worry Little Sis, we’ll see them tomorrow! And to make absolute SURE, we’ll even get to get up at 4:30 am to head to the airport because I DO NOT plan on missing this one! Wish us luck because what the heck am I still doing up at 11:39pm ?!?!
Thanks so much for stopping by! Feel free to make my day by leaving me a comment, following my blog via email, on Facebook or on Instagram – the more the merrier!

Because I just couldn't resist! 😉 What's done is done and she was ok w/ it at the end, but I did promise not to post any more pix like that w/o her permission. Anyway, I figured not too many actually read my blog… lol. So I really appreciate you stopping by! Thanks, Ilya!
