Snickerdoodles have always been a family favorite ever since I discovered Doctor Yum and her healthier versions of food. These snickerdoodles made healthier are just as delicious as any other kind you’ll run across! They’re deliciously chewy with just the right amount of crispiness when you bite into one. So tasty!
Doctor Yum’s recipe is no longer available, so I’m adding to my recipe “file” for future reference. I’d hate to lose track of such a wonderful thing! It’s so easy to sneak in the healthier stuff in these cookies because it already has lots of flecks from the cinnamon. Luckily, these snickerdoodles made healthier LOOK delicious, too!
Snickerdoodles Made Healthier

- 1 cup butter, softened (2 sticks)
- 3/4 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 cup white sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla extract
- 1 cup white wheat flour
- 1 1/2 cup white flour
- 2 Tbsp ground flax seed
- 2 Tbsp wheat germ
- 2 tsp cream of tartar
- 1 tsp baking soda
- 1/4 tsp salt
Topping
- 3 Tbsp white sugar
- 3 Tbsp ground cinnamon
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
-
In a large bowl or mixer, cream butter and sugars together and then mix in eggs and vanilla.
-
Add dry ingredients to butter mixture until combined.
-
Chill dough about 20 mins in the fridge.
-
Mix 3 Tbsp sugar and 3 Tbsp cinnamon together in small bowl.
-
Scoop 1.5 inch balls of chilled dough and roll them into sugar/cinnamon mixture. Gently press dough down a little with thumb for PERFECT cookies!
-
Bake 10-12 mins. Cool on wire racks.
Here are the nice little dough balls rolled in cinnamon sugar to give them a nice coating going into the oven. These cookies fare pretty well straight on the cookie sheet, but feel free to use parchment paper or a silicone mat if you’d like. If you use a silicone mat, be sure to push down ever so slightly on your balls so they aren’t too puffy. Cookies don’t flatten as much on silicone mats like the do on cookies sheets with or without parchment paper.
And here they are, right out of the oven. Don’t you just love the perfect little circles? That’s the whole reason to roll them into balls. It gives some height and puffiness to them.
I don’t know about you, but seeing this plate of cookies just makes me want to sink my teeth in to one (or several)!
