Hello all, it’s been a while since my last post! Hope this finds you all well!! Now that my girls are 20 and 17, they go out and experience things on their own, without me, which is so cool but sad at the same time. An example of one of those things are Acai Bowls. I’d never even tasted one when they declared their LOVE for them! They aren’t cheap, though, so Big Sis asked me one day if I could try making some at home. Of course I jumped at the chance! This Easy Acai Bowl Recipe is not only cost-effective AND good for you, it’s DELICIOUS!
The key to making this Easy Acai Bowl Recipe is of course, the acai! I happened across these organic puree packets at Trader Joe’s but have since seen similar ones elsewhere. I haven’t bothered to try any other brand though because these packets are PERFECT. They are organic, contain no sugar, taste great and are very affordable at TJ’s! Each bag, which costs $3.99, comes with four packets, so one bag will make you 16 acai bowls!
It took a few attempts to make this Easy Acai Bowl Recipe just right. The first attempt was too thin. Then I added too much yogurt and was “too yogurty”. Next I used too much ice which took away from the flavor and seemed to make it melt even faster than it normally does. My final attempt, this one, was declared a hit by Big Sis, our resident acai bowl connoisseur.
You can make this with pretty much any frozen fruit, but we really like this combination. If you exchange fruits, just be sure to keep the quantities about the same. One thing I absolutely love about this Easy Acai Bowl Recipe is that there is no added sugar or sweetener, yet it still tastes so good just from the frozen fruit! AMAZING! Even Trader Joe’s acai puree contains no sugar! Little Sis, however, does like to add a drizzle of honey to hers, and the granola, depending on the kind you use, can add some sugar as well.
Easy Acai Bowl Recipe
Ingredients
Acai Thick "Smoothie"
- 3.5 oz frozen packet of acai puree
- 2 whole frozen bananas, broken into smaller pieces
- 1 cup frozen strawberries
- 1 cup frozen blueberries
- 3/4 cup PLAIN yogurt
- 1/3 cup milk (of whatever kind you choose)
Toppings
- 1 whole bananas, sliced
- 1 cup fresh blueberries
- 1 cup sliced strawberries
- 1 cup granola
- 1/2 cup coconut flakes
- 1/4 cup pumpkin seeds (optional)
Instructions
-
First things first, put 4 serving bowls in the freezer.
-
Next, get your toppings ready for action. Wash your fruit, slice up your fruit, get your granola and coconut flakes and whatever other toppings you plan to use out and set them aside.
-
Add all of the Acai Thick "Smoothie" ingredients to your blender and blend until smooth. Use a tamper to help the blender along by continually mixing the frozen fruit up while blending. If you don't have a tamper, stop blending occasionally to mix that fruit up to make sure all of it gets blended. It should be THICK!
-
Divide Acai THICK Smoothie into 4 chilled bowls.
-
QUICKLY, add whatever toppings you'd like to your bowl and enjoy!!!
Recipe Notes
Feel free to add whatever other toppings you’d like, like nuts, chocolate chips, other fruit, etc. Really make it your own!
Our usual toppings are fresh blueberries, bananas, strawberries, Nature Valley’s Protein Granola, Oats & Honey which are safe for nut allergies and coconut flakes, which I had just run out of, sadly. I like to add blackberries, too, when we them and pumpkin seeds. Feel free to add whatever other toppings you like, including chocolate chips, nuts, seeds, other fruits, etc! Have fun experimenting with your Easy Acai Bowl Recipe!
